Frequently asked questions
Trademark rights are territorial. A registration you obtain in Turkey protects only in Turkey. For Europe you must file separately with EUIPO, for the US with USPTO, for the UK with UKIPO; if you target multiple countries, the Madrid Protocol allows you to proceed with a single application.
You typically receive an application number within a few days, and priority begins from that date. The registration certificate takes approximately 8–12 months in Turkey, 5–7 months at EUIPO, 4–6 months at UKIPO, and 10–14 months at the USPTO.
Registration is valid for 10 years and may be renewed indefinitely in 10-year periods. We track your renewal calendar, and we'll alert you as each renewal period approaches.
It's not mandatory, but we strongly recommend it. If similar prior registrations exist, your application may be rejected or face opposition; in that case, fees are not refunded. Search costs are well below application fees.
A word mark provides broader protection: protection continues even if you change the font or color. A logo registration covers only that specific visual form. If your budget allows, filing both together is the safest approach.
No. Company name registration and trademark registration are separate processes; trademark protection is granted only by filing with a trademark office. Even if your company name is registered, someone else can register that same phrase as a trademark.
You have the right to appeal a rejection; depending on the grounds, narrowing the class or making the mark distinctive can be considered. Office fees are not refunded, which is why a preliminary search is critical.
You can sell, but brand protection programs like Amazon Brand Registry require a registration certificate. Without registration, enforcing complaints about counterfeit products is much harder.
